TITLE

A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona, adopting a revised fee schedule for the Development Services Department and the Fire/Medical Department effective October 1, 2021.  Discussion and Action.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

This request is to repeal the existing fee schedule, as the new fee schedule for Planning & Zoning, Engineering, Building Safety, Code Enforcement, Fire & Safety. The purpose of this fee schedule update is to insure they are aligned with the cost of providing services. Fees were increased by 1% to account for the rising costs of technology. In accordance with A.R.S. §9-499.15, public notice was given for 60 days on the city's website of the proposed fee increase. Revised fees are to be considered as an action item by the City Council. If the City Council approves the modified and proposed fees, it is recommended that they go into effect October 1, 2021. Below is general breakdown of other fee line items.

Planning & Zoning

1.                     Pre-Application: Some jurisdictions are moving away from pre-application fees. To be competitive with other cities, pre-application fee of $334 will be applied as a credit once a formal Planning & Zoning application is submitted.

2.                     Addressing & Street Name Change: Changed fee from hourly rate to flat fee of $56 and $5 to determine the number of addresses and calculate the fee at the early stages of the project.

3.                     Fact Finding: Changed fee from hourly rate to flat fee of $112 to simplify the process and apply a standard fee for every fact-finding case.

4.                     Work Begun Without City Authorization: Implementation of new fee. Up to double current fee/rate. Typical fee item to have in any jurisdiction.
