TITLE
A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona, declaring as a public record that a certain document filed with the City Clerk and entitled "2018 Amendment - Chapter 7 Building Regulations" of the Maricopa City Code, relating to the update of rules and procedures to regulate construction and maintenance of buildings or structures within the City of Maricopa, adopting the fees related thereto and amending the Maricopa City Code by eliminating Section 3-120 and Article 7-1 of the previously adopted City Code and replacing that Article with sections 7-1-1 through 7-1-13. AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the Building Code is to establish predictable and consistent new construction standards necessary to prevent harm to life, property, and the environment. These minimum requirements are based on a practical balance between reasonable safety and cost.
The International Building Code is a one of a group of model building codes developed by the International Code Council (ICC) for use by state, county, and municipal governments.
This ordinance will update the City’s building code from the amended 2012 International Building Code and International Fire Code to the amended 2018 versions of these codes. They encompass the best practices in public health and safety for proposed construction. It improves staff's ability to deliver quality customer service through correlation with other codes, and support consistency in the use and enforcement of these by owners, designers, architects, developers, contractors, engineers, code officials and the community.
As part of Chapter 7 of the Maricopa City Code, this amendment will also include an update to the City’s Development Fees, which include Planning and Zoning fees, Building Permit and Inspection fees, Engineering Plan Review fees and the Fire Department Plan review and Inspection fees.
