TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and take action on approval of an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between the City of Maricopa and Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) for construction of a pedestrian bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) along the Maricopa Road alignment, west of the State Route 347 overpass. AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
This project includes a three-span concrete girder pedestrian bridge which is 12 feet wide and 255 feet long, with elevators and stairwells on each end. This bridge will provide pedestrians on Maricopa Road a safe, accessible option to cross over the railroad tracks. The project construction cost is estimated at $5,030,000.00, which includes a $2,700,000 federal earmark and a $2,330,000 Local Agency match. The City will administer the design at its own cost, and ADOT will advertise, bid, award, and administer the construction of the project due to the federal funding requirements. The City will have a separate construction and maintenance agreement with UPRR. In the event construction costs exceed the total construction budget, the City will be responsible for the entire amount that exceeds the $5,030,000 budget.
Funding for this project is budgeted within this fiscal year in Funds 300 (County Road Tax) and 352 (Grants), Project #40019

STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Mayor and City Council approve the IGA with ADOT for construction of a pedestrian bridge over the UPRR tracks.
