TITLE

 The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and take action to approve the City of Maricopa to move forward with applying for a Certificate of Necessity (CON) with the Arizona Department of Health Services to operate ambulance services within the City of Maricopa.  Discussion and Action.

 

 

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

 

The City Council shall discuss and possibly approve the application for Certificate of Necessity (CON) with the Arizona Department of Health Services.  The purpose of a CON is to provide ambulance services to residents within the City of Maricopa.  The current CON ambulance provider within the City of Maricopa is American Medical Response (AMR). The current response times for AMR under their CON is Outside city limits of Casa Grande, Florence, & Coolidge:

 

10 minutes on 35% of all emergency ambulance calls

15 minutes on 50% of all emergency ambulance calls

20 minutes on 70% of all emergency ambulance calls

30 minutes on 90 % of all emergency ambulance calls

45 minutes on 100% of all emergency ambulance calls

 

The Maricopa Fire & Medical Department is proposing response times as:

 

CODE 3

10 minutes on 90% of all emergency ambulance calls

15 minutes on 95% of all emergency ambulance calls

20 minutes on 100% of all emergency ambulance calls

 

CODE 2

20 minutes on 90% of all emergency ambulance calls

30 minutes on 95% of all emergency ambulance calls

40 minutes on 99% of all emergency ambulance calls

 

The CON will provide the City of Maricopa the ability to provide faster response times to citizens. 

 

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

 

Staff recommends approval of Certificate of Necessity application.
