TITLE

An Ordinance of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona, amending Section 1.10.010(B)(3)(a) of the Maricopa City Code relating to the authority to file a complaint for civil code enforcement and providing for severability and the effective date thereof.  Discussion and action.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

This Ordinance will amend Section 1.10.010(B)(3)(a) of the City Code to authorize park rangers to swear to complaints related to civil violations of the City Code.  This change adds the positions of Park Ranger to the list of code enforcement officers, building inspector, zoning officer, and public safety officer.  This will allow Park Rangers to limit the escalation of code and park rule violations in Maricopa parks.  This will keep police officers out in the community rather than needing to handle minor infractions in the park.  In general, the park ranger program seeks to educate the public without escalating to a citation.  If, after being made aware of a violation, the park user refuses to comply, issuing a citation may be necessary.

This item will be presented by Parks and Recreation Director Nathan Ullyot.
