TITLE

An Ordinance of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona, amending Section 3.15.010(A) of the Maricopa City Code relating to the City Manager's authority to increase the number of full time employees and providing for severability and the effective date thereof.  Discussion and Action.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

The City is experiencing significant growth, not only in population, but in community amenities. Additionally, the current “state of affairs” throughout the state and nation, require cities to be more innovative and flexible in our practices to ensure the public safety, to ensure appropriate placement of infrastructure and meet ever growing mandates imposed on cities and towns.  Therefore, in order to move more timely to meet pressing needs, the City Manager needs the flexibility to increase employee count  provided such positions remain within the council approved budget.  Currently, Section 3.15.010(A) does not allow this flexibility because only council can increase the total full time employees for the City.  Approval of this Ordinance would remove this limitation on the City Manager's authority and provide him the flexibility necessary to meet the needs of the City.
