TITLE

A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of Maricopa, Arizona, authorizing the submission of a grant application to the Gila River Indian Community in support of funding for the Maricopa Family Advocacy Center healthcare and operation expenses.  Discussion and Action.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

The passage of Proposition 2020 by the voters of Arizona in November 2002 set the stage for the new gaming compacts between the State and the respective tribes. An important provision of Proposition 202 was sharing of gaming

revenues with the State. A portion of the revenue to be shared can be retained by a tribe and distributed itself.   The Gila River Indian Community has opted to distribute the "12 percent" funds directly to cities, towns, or counties through a State Shared Revenue Grants Program. Since 2003 the Gila River Indian Community has contributed over 50 million dollars to Arizona Communities through this revenue sharing program alone.

The Gila River Indian Community will fund Arizona municipalities in providing government services in the areas of economic development, education, healthcare, public safety and transportation.

On April 3, 2020 the City of Maricopa Police Department / Maricopa Family Advocacy Center submitted an application to the Gila River Indian Community to assist in providing access to emergency medical services 24/7 to
