TITLE

The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on appointing citizens to fill the vacancies on the Merit Board. Discussion and Action.

 

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

The City's Personnel Policies and Procedures govern the Merit Board membership and composition. It states, in part, that:

 

1. The Merit Board shall be made up of three (3) Maricopa Citizens not employed by the City

2. The selection shall be made by the mayor and city council

3. The members shall serve three (3) year staggered terms

4. The City Council may remove a Board member for cause at any time other than during an ongoing grievance or

appeal process when the removal of a Board member could either positively or negatively affect the outcome of

the Board decision

5. No member of the Merit Board may at the same time hold any elected office or appointed position in the City of Maricopa, or any paid City of Maricopa municipal position

 

Staff is in receipt of four applications. One from current Merit Board member Trammel Sanhadja whose term ended on December 4, 2019. Mr. Sanhadja was initially appointed on 8/1/2010 as an alternate and on 5/17/2011 as a board member. He is seeking reappointment.

 

The other application received are from Nadia Vasquez, Jennifer Hopper and David Anderson.

 

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends appointment of three citizens as board members with one additional as an alternate.
