TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action to approve an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with the Pinal County Animal Control Department to provide shelter and kenneling services for animals brought to the facility from and within the incorporated limits of the City. Discussion and Action.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
The City has contracted with Pinal County for Animal Control Services for many years. Our current contract has expired last year June 30, 2019, and we are operating on a month to month basis while we re-evaluated the contract and operations. At present, the City provides the truck, computer system, fuel and maintenance, Pinal County provides the shelter and personnel. The current Animal Control Officer lives within our community but services both our community and portions of Pinal County. Based on staff evaluations, it is being recommended that we bring the Officer on board as a City employee and thus will serve exclusively only the City of Maricopa. This action will provide less wear and tear on our vehicle, fewer fuel costs, and enhance coverage and customer service. We will continue to contract with Pinal County for sheltering purposes. At present, our annual contract cost approximately $88,000 per year. The City is already paying for the vehicle, insurance, maintenance, fuel, etc. and these costs are not included in the $88,000 contract. This action will save us approximately $10,000 per year and allow for better service and fewer vehicle expenses. We have the full support of Pinal County for this action and this proposed IGA will finalize a three (3) year contract with Pinal County for sheltering and kenneling services only.

The term of this agreement is for three (3) years beginning July 1, 2020, ending June 30, 2022 and is effective upon being recorded in the Pinal County Recorder’s Office.

This item will be presented by Kazi Haque, Deputy City Manager.
