TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on approving an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with the Maricopa Unified School District regarding a shared School Resource Officer (SRO). Discussion and Action.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

The City of Maricopa values its strong relationship with the Maricopa Unified School District (MUSD). As a part of this relationship, the City and MUSD share facilities and resources in order to improve the services provided by the two public agencies. In order to continue this relationship and these shared services, two Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs) must be approved.

1) School Resource Officer. The City of Maricopa Police Department provides a School Resource Officer (SRO) to the school district--the officer being located at Maricopa High School. The SRO is responsible for problem solving and partnership efforts and activities at the school along with law enforcement related activities at the school. The Police Department supervises the work of the SRO and provides transportation and the necessary equipment to accomplish all assignments. As such, the Police Department is responsible for conducting SRO performance evaluations with input from the Site Administrator or Principal of the school. The Police Department is also responsible for all SRO training. In exchange for this service, MUSD reimburses the City the yearly costs of the SRO.

2) Shared Facilities. The City of Maricopa and MUSD also share facilities for special events. The City may use district facilities such as playing fields, multipurpose rooms, theaters, board rooms, classrooms, or other facilities for events. The District may use City playing fields, gymnasiums, aquatic facilities, or other facilities for events. Either agency may use these shared facilities for sporting, civic, art, or educational events.
