TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take two actions: First, amending the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to approve a new project to install solar street lights in under-lit neighborhoods within the Heritage District; and second, to approve a transfer from the Grants CIP Fund (Fund 352) to the Capital Projects Fund (Fund 350) in the amount of $180,000 to provide funding for the purchase of twenty-three (23) SolarOne street lights and installation costs. AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
Neighborhoods within the Heritage District are currently under-lit. As it is a goal of the City Council to make every neighborhood feel safe, the purchase of street lights is proposed. Because there is limited electrical infrastructure in these neighborhoods, solar street lights are proposed. The lights include a power center and battery packs located inside the poles themselves. The solar skin on the surface of the pole removes the need of the unsightly solar panel that is often affixed to solar street lights. The specifications on the design of the pole is included as an attachment to this agenda item.

The twenty-three (23) poles are proposed to be located in the heritage district at key locations on Lexington Avenue, Roosevelt Avenue, Taft Avenue, Wilson Avenue, Condrey Avenue, Justin Drive, Garvey Avenue, Ed Green Lane, Fred Cole Lane, and Dallas Smith Lane. A map indicating the tentative location of the poles is included as an attachment to this agenda item. Please note that the exact locations are subject to change between now and installation. The Heritage District Committee expressed support for the project when it was shared during their regular meeting on Thursday, August 8, 2019.
