TITLE

The Mayor and City Council shall hear public comment regarding the use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds expected to be in the amount of $265,000.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

This portion of the meeting will serve as a public hearing to gain input on possible uses for the CDBG Regional Allocation Funding. The Mayor and City Council will hear a presentation from Kazi Haque, Acting Development Services Director and Flor Brandow, Neighborhood Program Specialist on the CDBG Regional Allocation Funding process and possible uses.

Since 1982 the Arizona Department of Housing (ADOH) has been responsible to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development for administering the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program in Arizona with the exception of Maricopa and Pima Counties and the cities of Yuma and Flagstaff. The State of Arizona has a partnership with the regional Councils of Government (COG) to provide technical and administrative assistance. ADOH has delegated to each COG the responsibility to recommend an annual method of distribution within its region, thereby enabling local units of government to guide the distribution of resources.

Presently, the City of Maricopa shares its Regional Allocation with the City of Eloy; Maricopa is allotted approximately $300,000 every two years. The past two cycles, funds were used to complete the Heritage District Floodplain Analysis for Maricopa, Arizona.

This meeting serves as the First Public Hearing to gain input on possible uses for the CDBG Regional Allocation. A Second Public Hearing will be held at the June 4th City Council Regular Meeting to hear input on the projects suggested at the First Public Hearing. City Council will be asked to approve a resolution directing the use of CDBG funds at the June 4th City Council Regular Meeting.
