TITLE

A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona, adopting the 2018 Pinal County Community Wildfire Protection Plan.  Disccusion and Action

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action to approve this resolution adopting the 2018 revision of the Pinal County Community Wildfire Protection Plan. The plan was first created in 2009 in response to the Healthy Forests Restoration Act of 2003. The current revision process began in October, 2017 and was completed in August, 2018. The 2018 plan was collaboratively developed and revised by Pinal County, local municipalities, utilities and fire districts, with assistance from state and federal forestry agencies. The 2018 plan recognizes the proximity of many communities within Pinal County to landscape-scale fires. It establishes locally determined and approved wildland urban interface boundaries; gives priority for federal mitigation funding to communities that have adopted a plan; and requires federal fuel reduction projects to give priority to projects identified in the plan. The plan does not obligate the City of Maricopa to any policy, project, or expenditures.
