TITLE

An Ordinance of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona, adopting "2018 Amendments to Article 10-4 - Alarm Systems" by reference and amending Article 10-4 of the Maricopa City Code and providing for severability and the effective date thereof.  Discussion and Action.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

This is a revision to the existing city code, updating the fee and enforcement provisions of the residential and commercial alarms within the city.  The Police Department has consistently responded to over 75 false alarms per month.  The goals of this code revision are: 1) ensure all businesses and residences who have alarms are educated on safe alarm holder obligations; 2) simplify and efficiently provide alarm permitting access; 3) reduce the number of false alarm calls requiring a police response; 4) ensure the first responders and communications personnel have access to responsible account information for contact when necessary; and 5)  increase officer and citizen safety.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the Mayor and City Council approve the Ordinance to the proposed fee increase and revision to  Chapter 10 related to the residential and commercial alarm fees and permitting.
