Title: The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action to accept a grant award and enter into a contract with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant in the amount of $880,416 and designate the City Manager to sign the grant agreements. AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
On 01/29/2018, the City Manager approved the submission of a grant application to the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG); a suite of competitive grants comprised of three interconnected programs (Operations and Safety, Vehicle Acquisition and Joint/Regional) for awarding direct financial assistance to fire departments, non-affiliated EMS organizations and state fire training academies.

The Maricopa Fire Department as the host agency, submitted an application for a joint training and education grant collaboration with Mesa Community College and the Virtual Incident Command Center. On 07/16/2018 the Maricopa Fire Department received award notification from FEMA.

By entering into this joint education/training grant opportunity as the host agency not only benefits the Maricopa Fire Department through additional training/education opportunities at no cost through MCC and the VICC, but additionally offers these same opportunities to consortium partners consisting of, City of Mesa Fire and Medical, City of Scottsdale Fire, City of Gilbert Fire, City of Peoria Fire, City of Chandler Fire, Sun City Fire, Rio Verde Fire, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, the Gila River Indian Community, and Arizona F...
