TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall hear a presentation from Ms. Rebecca Rothenberg, on the final Housing Plan and recommendations.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
The City of Maricopa recently completed the Maricopa Housing Needs Assessment and Housing Plan, 2017 - 2027. Based on comprehensive analysis and robust community engagement, the Needs Assessment indicates a significant demand for more housing diversity so that all current and future Maricopa residents can find a quality home affordable to them. In particular, the city needs smaller homes for one- and two-person households, and lower cost apartments and homes for workers, students, and seniors on fixed incomes.
To accomplish this, the City has begun the planning process to develop much-needed housing in a manner that supports walkability, new shops and restaurants, and a “downtown” area, so that new apartments, townhomes and condominiums will be integrated into a vibrant and attractive destination for all residents to enjoy. The City, through a design charrette, completed the preliminary concept plan for this new development within the City Center site. Future work will continue these efforts leading to new real estate development guided by the City and its residents.
This item is being presented by Kazi Haque, zoning administrator.
