TITLE

The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action to approve a SR347 Special Event Signage Program that will assist businesses affected by the State Route 347 Grade Separation project with additional signage to what is allowed in the current Zoning Code 409.12. Discussion and Action.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

This program, if approved, will allow longer durations of temporary banner signage on buildings and the allowance of larger mobile temporary signs within the legal boundaries of the property (refer to attachment A, for policy information).

Economic Development staff has worked diligently with the public, Development Services Planning Division, Public Works and the Planning and Zoning Commission to present the proposed program. The specific goals of this program are the following:

1. To improve driver guidance and ease the impact of construction on new and existing businesses.

2. To provide additional signage opportunities from the temporary sign regulations, Zoning Code section 409.12, which only permits temporary signs for a period of 30 days and limits their number, size, and location.

3. Provide flexibility and a process for staff to work with businesses to provide alternative signage options when determined necessary through the duration of construction of the Grade Separation (SR-347).

If Council should approve this program, staff is prepared to market it as follows:

· Special e-newsletter announcements will be sent to local businesses
· Program information to be posted to the City website
· Posts on MaricopaMatters Facebook and Twitter pages
· Email notice will be sent to local business groups for distribution among their members
· Communicate with local media to encourage story placement promoting the event and describing its benefit to local businesses
· Flyers ...
