TITLE
The Mayor and Council shall discuss and possibly take action to approve the Addendum to the 2017-2019 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Professional Firefighters of Maricopa, IAFF Local 4561. Discussion and Action.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
The City of Maricopa and the Professional Firefighters of Maricopa, IAFF Local 4561, began negotiations in January 2017. Negotiations concluded in April 2017. The MOU is based on a series of meetings between management staff and the Professional Firefighters of Maricopa, IAFF Local 4561. These meetings took place in accordance with the Meet and Confer Ordinance 11-09, Article VI of the City Code. The cost of this MOU is forecasted to be $50,645 for fiscal year 2017-2018, and $86,000 for 2018-2019.
The City later met with the Local to review the recommendations as determined by the Classification and Compensation Study completed in October 2017. The parties mutually agreed to re-open the MOU for the sole purpose of discussing a potential salary adjustment. If approved, this Addendum to the Memorandum of Understanding with the Professional Firefighters of Maricopa, IAFF Local 4561, will be in effect from May 13, 2018 through June 30, 2020.
The Professional Firefighters of Maricopa, IAFF Local 4561, have been professional during the negotiations, and their open communication and spirit of cooperation have been appreciated.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the Mayor and Council approve the Addendum to the current 2017-2019 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Professional Firefighters of Maricopa, IAFF Local 4561, and extend the current contract by one fiscal year, through June 30, 2020.
