TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on approving repairs on Engine 575 that exceed $25,000 and to increase the purchasing threshold at WW Williams. The expenditure is paid from the general Fire Department budget and no additional funds are requested. Discussion and Action.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
This request is to approve repairs on Engine 575 that exceed $25,000. During routine preventative Maintenance Mechanics found oil leaks requiring service at the authorized Detroit Engine service center WW Williams. The service center disassembled the engine and after inspection recommended replacing the engine. Even though the Engine is out of warranty by 1 ½ years; Maricopa mechanics were able to prove that all PM’s (Preventative Maintenance) and service was above standard resulting in Detroit and Pierce approving an additional $18,000 discount. This request is to approve repairs that exceed the $25,000 limit and not to exceed $44,000. Note: On 4/3/2018 Interim City Manager Trisha Sorensen authorized purchasing to approve PO 43564 so that WW Williams can order the Engine from Detroit. The expedited request is to reduce the down time on E575 and to get the Detroit motor order in place, which has a 5-week delivery schedule.
In addition, Purchasing and Fire Department are requesting to increase capacity spending at WW Williams from $40,000 to $95,000 for budget year 2017-2018. WW Williams is a service center for Allison transmission, Detroit Engines and Mercedes Engines, and they provide service for the majority of the City’s large fleet.
This item will be presented by Chief Brady Leffler.
