AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

The State of Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control requires that an Application for Special Event Liquor License be approved by local government before submission to their office.  In preparation for the Salsa Festival event that is planned for March 24, 2018 at Copper Sky Regional Park, the Mayor and City Council approved an application submitted by Native Grill & Wings at its February, 2018 Regular Meeting.  However, when moving forward with processing the application, the Department of Liquor Licenses and Control advised that the law governing the acceptable categories for Non-Profit/Tax Exempt organizations had changed in August, 2017 and that local government agencies were no longer eligible for Non-Profit status.  Neither City staff nor Native Grill & wings were aware of this change in State law.  In an effort to be able to proceed with the planned beer garden for the Salsa Festival, the Maricopa Cultural Activity Center, Inc. (Friends of the Maricopa Public Library) agreed to be the Non-Profit applicant for the Special Event License.  This item will be presented by Fred Gray, Interim Community Services Director.
