The Mayor and City Council shall hear a presentation on the Planning Maricopa 2018 Annual Report.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
As Council knows, the City’s General Plan Update, Planning Maricopa, was adopted by the voters of Maricopa in 2016. The plan itself requires that an annual report be prepared by Development Services that monitors the status of the plan itself.
From Planning Maricopa:
Maintaining General Plan momentum is a responsibility for the entire community. City leadership should use the Plan as a regular decision-making tool. City staff should apply the document’s principles on a day-to-day basis, keeping track of shortcomings to be remedied. Residents, property owners and developers need to rely on the General Plan and follow its directions. Together, all these stakeholders should be involved in the monitoring responsibility: oversight, updating and following Plan directions.
In that effort, the Development Services Director is tasked with compiling the annual report, which includes an assessment of the goals and objectives and a progress statement on their incremental achievement, as well as details on problem areas or suggested updates.
Throughout the development of the planningmaricopa.com website, staff has planned for this monitoring to be included in the web-based plan on an ongoing basis. As achievements occur throughout the year, they are assessed and added to the “Latest News” section of the website, allowing for easy review at the beginning of each annual evaluation period. This 2018 report represents the first of such reviews and is wholly contained on the website at www.planningmaricopa.com <http://www.planningmaricopa.com> under the “Latest News” tab located at the top of the page.
