TITLE

The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on approving a Cooperative Purchase Agreement with Vincon Engineering Construction, LLC in an amount not to exceed $300,000 for asphalt rubber crack sealing of streets throughout Maricopa using materials purchased separately by the City.  Funding for this contract will be drawn from Local Road Maintenance Fund, Engineering, Street Projects-Capital, Street Maintenance (20555155-67750-34005).  Pricing for this contract is based on City of Chandler Contract No. ST5-745-3433, and is in compliance with City of Maricopa Purchasing Code, Article IV, Section 3-223, “Cooperative Purchasing.”  Discussion and Action.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

Preventive maintenance is essential for extending the life of streets.  As pavement ages, cracks begin to form.  Left unfilled, water will infiltrate the cracks and shorten the life of the pavement.  The crack repair process is accomplished by blowing the cracks clean with compressed air and then filling them with hot crack sealant material.  Crack sealing is a sound, cost-effective preventive maintenance technique for extending pavement life; it should be done on an annual basis to be most effective, because new cracks are always forming.

This contract includes traffic control and cleaning and filling of roadway cracks in streets throughout Maricopa.  The City will provide the crack sealing material to save money on crack fill material costs, and the recommended contractor will provide application.  The requested amount includes a standard 15% contingency.

This item will be presented by Public Works Director/City Engineer William P. Fay.
