AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
The City of Maricopa Mayor and City Council shall discuss and potentially sign a resolution agreeing to be the Fiscal Agent for F.O.R. Maricopa to obtain 12% Grant Program funding from the Ak-Chin Indian Community if awarded funding.

For 2017, the Ak-Chin Indian Community (“Community”) has elected to award its 12% Contribution directly through its 12% Grant Program. Through the 12% Grant Program, the Community accepts applications from cities, towns, counties, and other organizations seeking funding to support services that benefit the general public.
Applicants should request funding only for programs or services that benefit the general public. Examples of eligible programs include, but are not limited to, programs or services in the areas of:
1) Education
2) Public safety
3) Health
4) Environment
5) Promotion of commerce
6) Economic and community development
F.O.R. Maricopa is requesting funds of $300,000 for constructing a “simple metal building” to house the food bank. Relocation of the food bank is required due to the ADOT 347 overpass project. Grant funds will be used to construct a permanent building in a new location; total cost is estimated at $1,000,000.00. The mission of the F.O.R. Maricopa food bank is to distribute food without cost to low income individuals, families and seniors. Last year the food bank served 100,000 people, as clients come more than once a year.
This item will be presented by Brenda Hasler, Financial Services Director.
