TITLE

The Mayor and City Council shall hear a presentation on the Council approved Work Plan 2016-17, Implementation Plan for the Subdivision Ordinance and Zoning Code Updates. Discussion only.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

Per the City Council approved FY16 -17 budget and Work Plan 2016-17, the Subdivision Ordinance and Zoning Code Updates were on the list of work to be implemented by the Development Services Department.

The first phase of the Scope of Work includes the Subdivision Ordinance Update. It is an 11-year-old document with only one minor text amendment since its adoption in 2006. With the City Council recently approved Zoning Code (2014) and the General Plan (2016), the subdivision ordinance is due for a major update for consistency purposes. It is vital to review the code and modify as needed to continue with current industry standards and procedures, and also implement the goals and objectives of the city’s Planning Maricopa and 2040 Vision adopted documents.

The second phase includes the Zoning Code, which is included as a minor update. Adopted in 2014, staff has found several code sections that require slight text modifications. The intent is not to overhaul the zoning code; instead, it is expected to have a few modifications to implement the code correctly.

This item will be presented by Senior Planner, Rodolfo Lopez.
