TITLE

A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona, vacating and abandoning, with compensation, King Street and an attached 16 foot wide alley generally located north of West Garvey Avenue and east of Wilson Avenue within the City of Maricopa.  Discussion and Action.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

As required by the City’s Abandonment application procedures, on March 21 the Mayor and City Council heard public comment(s) on case number 20160810, a request by Maricopa Domestic Water to abandon King Street and an attached 16-foot-wide alley, located on the north side of Garvey Avenue, south of the County court building, and east of the Wilson Road alignment, within the incorporated limits of the City of Maricopa.  On April 4, staff presented its recommendation to Council, based on public input received, and received Council’s approval to proceed.

The City is required to receive compensation for conveying public property to a private property owner.  An appraisal has been submitted to the City for review, and staff is requesting Council take action on accepting the value as appraised and formally adopting resolution of the abandonment.

This item will be presented by Public Works Director/City Engineer William P. Fay.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Mayor and City Council approve the Resolution to abandon the portion of King Street adjoining Garvey Avenue and a portion of the attached 16-foot-wide alley.
