TITLE

An Ordinance of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona, amending section 18-4-2 and section 18-10(6) of the Maricopa City Code regarding pets within city parks and providing for severability and the effective date thereof. Discussion and Action.

 

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

The proposed ammendments have been recommended and approved by PRL (Parks, Recreation and Library Advisory Committee) at the March 22, 2017 meeting. Community Services worked with various stakeholders, such as the Dog Park Alliance and pet owners that reached out to Community Services, who frequent the dog park.

 

The proposed amendments include updating the leash law to require pets be leashed within six (6) feet in length unless in a designated off-leash area.

 

Ammendments also include any dometsticated pet within a City Park shall wear up-to-date tags.

 

The presence of a domesticated pet in a dog Park or any other Park Area, facility, or open space shall constitute a waiver of liability, on behalf of the person either owning, controlliing, or attempting to control the pet.

 

 

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the Mayor and Council adopt this Ordinance.
