TITLE

The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on approving a Senior Transition Plan. Discussion and Action.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

The Community Services Director worked with the Age-Friendly Committee to develop a plan that met the needs of the seniors as well as the resources of the City. The transition plan from the Copa Center will include two locations, Copper Sky Multigenerational Center beginning April 3, 2017, and Santa Cruz Elementary School in Tortosa beginning April 4,2017. Copper Sky days and hours will include Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Santa Cruz days and and hours will be Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Summer schedule will change to Santa Cruz, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. due to summer camps at Copper Sky, beginning June 5 - July 14. MUSD will issue the City a key to open and close the classrooms. One room at Copper Sky (Room A/Dry Room) will be available and Santa Cruz will have two classrooms available for use. At this time no cost will be associated with using the rooms at Santa Cruz Elementary School under the current IGA. However, it has been explained to the Community Services Director per the MUSD Superintendent that this could change when the IGA changes due to the COPS Grant. The total annual billing for one classroom would be $1,350 and $3,707 for two should the IGA change and the City be responsible for the covering the cost. There is also a chance in the future that the rooms at the elementary school will no longer be available if needed to expand for students.

Staff recommends that Mayor and City Council hear presentation and take action on the proposed plan.
