AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

This agenda item is for the public hearing only. The 5311 FY 17/18 grant application (mid-cycle of two-year grant) action will be submitted to Council at a later time for approval to apply.

The City has operated a transit system of various services since 2008. Today we operate Local Demand Response, Regional Demand Response and Limited Route Deviation (fixed route) service. This requested FY 17/18 modification will include the Local and Regional Demand Response at current levels, and a request for funding of additional Route Deviation services.  The additional route deviation services will provide a circulating bus from 7:00 am -6:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with 10-12 bus stops, commencing October 1, 2017.  Ideally, this bus will cycle once per hour in a circular pattern. The cost split is historically FTA 58 percent, city 42 percent for operations, FTA 80 percent, city 20 percent for administration, and FTA 90 percent, city 20 percent for capital purchases. All improvements are contingent upon Council budget approval.

As a requirement of this grant application, the City of Maricopa is required to hold a public meeting and seek public comment on the grant application for transit services in the community.
