TITLE

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
Per the City Council approved FY16 -17 budget and related Work Plan 2016-17, the Housing Needs Assessment was on the list of work the Development Services Department was directed to implement.
Since incorporation, Maricopa elected officials and residents alike expressed the need for diverse housing stocks to meet the needs of its residents. Currently, the city has only one CR-3 Zone, single family residential homes, and it fails to meetany demand that may exist concerning multi-family housing. Per City Council approved 2040 Vision goals and strategies (see listed goals below), and Planning Maricopa, a Housing Needs Assessment Study will provide staff and the elected officials the direction to carry forward and meet those goals and objectives.
Goal 2, Strategy #1, Create zoning districts that include various densities and building heights;
Goal 1, Strategy #3: Engage high quality City staff for the development of Master and Area Specific Plans.
Housing Availability and Diversity
Goal 2, Strategy # 1 Conduct a detailed citywide housing needs assessment redevelopment areas.
General Plan 2006: Land Use Element, Goal 1- Achieve a balance in the community between jobs and housing.
At the end of the General Plan Update process, and the successful ratification and approval of the General Plan by the citizens in November 2016, staff initiated the procurement process to hire an outside expert on housing needs assessment study.
