TITLE

The Mayor and City Council will discuss and possibly take action on amending the City's Employee Compensation Policy to provide a shift differential for Public Safety Communication Dispatchers.  Discussion and Action.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

Amend the City's Employee Compensation policy to provide a shift differential for Public Safety Communication Dispatchers.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

The City of Maricopa is pleased to begin its own Public Safety Communication Dispatch operation starting in March 2016.  Public Safety Communication Dispatchers provide police 9-1-1 dispatching services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  In recognition of the unique nature of police 9-1-1 dispatching, we recommend incorporating shift differential to the pay and benefit package offered to Public Safety Communication Dispatchers.

1.      Shift Differential

a.      Night: For a shift ending after 10:00 p.m. an additional $.60/hour to base hourly rate.

b.      Weekends:  for Saturday and Sunday shifts, an additional $.25/hour to base hourly rate.

This additional pay will ensure our salary and benefit package is competitive with other local dispatching agencies.
