AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
The project consists of designing a new railroad siding, approximately 3200 feet long, to the north of the existing Union Pacific main lines. The new railroad siding will facilitate the future relocation of the existing Amtrak station from its current location near State Route 347 (SR 347) to a new location approximately 1 mile west. The design will also include conceptual planning for a passenger platform; realignment of Garvey Avenue northward to allow for the platform and platform access; and conceptual planning for a transit component for the Amtrak station.

Design to facilitate the Amtrak station relocation is the first phase of the anticipated SR 347 grade separation project that will result in a grade separated crossing of SR 347 over the Union Pacific Railroad line. Relocation of the Amtrak station will eliminate the considerable delays that result in the train stoppage on SR 347, to allow passengers to embark and disembark. The realignment of Garvey Avenue will also tie in with the road extension that will be designed as part of the Edison Road Improvements project, which has been brought forward for separate Council approval on this agenda.

This item will be presented by Joshua Plumb, Engineering Manager.
