AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
The City of Maricopa launched the Solar Rebate Program on September 8, 2010 through the use of the Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (EECBG). To date, the City of Maricopa has received 34 applications, 31 have been approved for rebate and the remaining 3 are pending installation. Since program adoption, 162,857 kWh of renewable energy has been generated. The total electricity billing for all participants is $12,076 which is an approximate 80% reduction when comparing previous bills without solar panels. The total monetary savings to residents in the City is approximately $25,183.

At the Duke Energy Foundation, supporting the health and welfare of the communities is directly tied to their commitment to sustainability. The Foundation believes the decisions they make today will determine the company's long term prospects. One of those decisions is to ensure communities have the resources and support they need to thrive now and well into the future. At the core of the Duke Energy Foundation is its commitment to community with a focus in four areas.

1. Environment- Initiatives that support the efficient use of energy, but that also do not conflict with programs approved in the regulated jurisdictions

2. Economic Development- Initiatives that support the company's economic development strategy, skills and workforce development

3. Education- Pre K-12 education focused on science, technology, engineering and math

4. Community Vitality - Human services, arts, cultural and community safety as well as community leadership development
