TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on approving a purchase from Advanced Traffic Products for Pre-Emption devices and equipment for traffic intersections and the purchase of Opticom Emitters for emergency vehicles pursuant to Section 3-223, “Cooperative Purchasing” of the City Code in an amount not to exceed $60,000.00. The expenditure will be paid from the Capital Improvement Plan Budget line item # 35022528-67741-32031. Discussion and Action.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
This request is to purchase Pre-emption devices for The City of Maricopa intersections and Fire Apparatus. These pre-emption devices will be installed on all front line apparatus and at traffic controlled intersections. Pre-emption devices placed on vehicles will send an infrared code to traffic lights while the vehicle is in route. Once the traffic light receives the code it quickly changes to allow emergency vehicle passage, resulting in safer intersections and allowing firefighters to arrive at the emergency quicker.
This purchase is being requested in conjunction with the 5-year Capital Improvement Plan for the purchase of equipment that will enable the intersections to be controlled during emergency responses. Approval of this request will also enhance public safety by reducing response times and providing increased safety of our firefighters and the public through these intersections.
