TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall hear and possibly take action to enter into an Intergovernmental Agreement between the City of Maricopa and the Maricopa Unified School District (MUSD) for $211,372.56 for the placement of two (2) School Resource Officers over a four( 4 ) year period. Discussion and action.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
On June 25, 2020 the City of Maricopa Police Department received notification the agency was awarded 3 officer positions and $375,000 in federal funds over a three year award period under the 2020 COPS Hiring Program (CHP). The local cash match for this award will be $450,264.00
The official start date of the award is 07/01/2020. This grant was accepted through NCAC-20-107
The total out of pocket costs to the City at the time of the application were $459,267.69 plus the operating costs associated with the 3 positions = $634,117.69.
In prior meetings with Maricopa Unified School District and Sequoia Pathway Academy it was discussed they would share the expense 50/50 with the City. These meetings were held in February 2020
and we did receive written confirmation of both schools financial commitment prior to the submittal of the application on 03/11/2020.
50/50 cost share with the City would be $317,058.85 schools and $317,058.85 for the schools divided between MUSD and Pathway. MUSD would have two SRO's that would be placed into
Maricopa Wells Middle School and Desert Winds Middle School and their cost share would be slightly higher at $211,372.56 over a 4 year period and Sequoia Pathway Academy would have a cost
share of $105,375.56 over a 4 year period.
This grant was planned for in FY21 Operating Budget as well as the match to the grant in the 10022122 account and is under project 21202
