TITLE

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
During a Council work session on June 19, 2012, Council heard a presentation on developing the property on Lexington Ave. into a neighborhood park. Council instructed staff to conduct further public outreach, add an accessible path to the turf area and finalize a budget.

Staff conducted outreach by taking the possible park concept to the Park, Recreation & Library (PRL) Committee as well as the Heritage District Committee. The PRL Committee was very happy with the proposed park and voted to move forward. The Heritage District Committee felt that a park was needed on this site and liked the overall design of the park. They felt that there needed to be access down to the turf, more trees, one more bench and that the play feature was not needed. They also wanted to get the community involved in the project.

The proposed improvements for a neighborhood park would be to install turf at the bottom of the retention area only, add soil amendments, add rock to the slopes of the retention area and the perimeter, install an irrigation system, add a decomposed granite path down to the turf and add trees for shade. Rock has been selected for the slopes and perimeter to save on maintenance costs and to prevent erosion as the site will continue to act primarily as a retention basin.

The other amenities that would be added include a trash receptacle, two benches, picnic table, doggie pot and curbing around the perimeter. The total cost of the improvements for the park is estimated at $12,788. The total cost for all ...
