AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
Crack sealing is a sound, cost-effective preventive maintenance technique employed to extend the life of pavement. The Poly Flex III material manufactured by Crafco is specially formulated to withstand the high temperatures of Arizona and is the same material used by the City of Chandler for the last 20 years. This product does not track on the streets, does not get carried onto driveways, and is stable and very durable. In the past, Maricopa’s crack seal maintenance has been performed seasonally, beginning in November and ending in May; however, staff’s observation of an increased frequency of larger cracking in city streets, accompanied by citizen complaints, has led staff to determine that the crack sealing effort should be continued throughout the year.

The current contract, in an amount not to exceed $70,000, was approved by Council on February 5, 2013 and expires on February 5, 2014; those funds were expended in Fiscal Year 2013. The current supply of crack seal material is expected to be depleted by October, 2013.

This item will be presented by Development Services Director Bob Goodhue and Engineering Inspector Rob Dolson.
