TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on creating a seven member Youth Internship Program Advisory Committee and appointing the initial committee members.  Discussion and Action.
 
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
On August 5, 2014 the Mayor and Council received a presentation by City Manager Gregory Rose on the creation of a Youth Internship Program.  The proposed program would focus on providing the Maricopa youth within the ages of 16-21 exposure to careeer opportunities in the public and private sectors.  It was also recommended that Council waive the membership requirements for Standing Committees and allow the City Manager to offer Council a slate of seven members comprised of key stakeholders educators best suited to fulfill the goals of the committee.
 
The City Manager is proposing that the following individuals be appointed to the Youth Intership Program Advisory Committee:  
 
      Dr. Janice Pratt, Central Arizona College
      Alma Farrell, CAVITT
      Marla Lewis, Maricopa Chamber of Commerce
      Jamie Westmiller, Harrah's Casino
      Victor Jimenez, University of Arizona
      Wade Watson, Maricopa Unified School District
      Chairperson of the Maricopa Youth Council (this wil be on a rotating yearly basis)

STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recomends that Council appoint seven members to the Youth Internship Program Advisory Committee.
