The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on a request by City Clerk Vanessa Bueras to approve an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with Pinal County for the purpose of providing election services for the spring 2014 elections. Discussion and Action.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
Pinal County (County) requires that the City approve an IGA so that the Pinal County Recorder and Election Departments may provide voter registration and election services to the City for the upcoming Mayor and City Council elections scheduled for August 26, 2014 (Primary) and November 4, 2014 (General). Services provided by the County include, but are not limited to: preparing the ballot formats, mailing ballots to all registered voters within the City of Maricopa, early ballot signature verification, and tallying the official results of the election.

The City will provide the Elections Department with all the necessary documents to ensure the names and measures appear on the official ballot for the aforementioned elections as well as submit any preclearance requests to the United States Department of Justice as required under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act.

Fiscal impact varies depending on voter turnout. Funds in the amount of $57,800 will be included in the City Clerk's election budget for FY 2014/2015 to cover the related expenses.

This item will be presented by Vanessa Bueras, City Clerk.
