AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
On January 16, 2018 the Mayor and City Council accepted a grant and entered into a grant agreement through the Arizona Department of Public Safety for the Crime Victims Assistance Grant to fund three victim advocates for a period of
three years. The grant agreement term is October 1, 2017- September 30, 2020.
The grant award announcement was made in December 2017. Due to the late award announcement from the Arizona Department of Public Safety (ASDPS) the third victim advocate position was not hired until March 2018 creating a large salary savings in the grant budget and in summer 2018 the City was advised they could enter a modification request for items not originally asked for in the grant application. The City also had to demonstrate it was meeting it's full match requirement pending submitting for a modification. A verbal approval from AZDPS to request to purchase the portable radios for the victim advocates to improve communication with police officers during crisis response. A quote from Motorola Solutions was received on August 28, 2018. Grant funds with the modification are required to be expended by September 30, 2018 before year two of the grant award commences.
Please see the attached purchasing summary.
This item will be presented by Steve Stahl, Police Chief.
