TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on approving a 12-month lease agreement, beginning August 1, 2012, between the City of Maricopa and Murphy Land Investors, LLC for the Fire Station 572 Temporary Site, and approve a contingency transfer to fund this expense not to exceed $20,000 from General Fund, Non-Departmental, Contingency (10010000-99000) to General Fund, Fire Administration, Rental of Land and Buildings (10022525-54441). Discussion and Action.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
The City of Maricopa previously had a license to use property in the Tortosa area for the provision of fire protection to the area, which ended on December 30, 2008. After December 30, 2008, the City, with property owner consent, continued to use the licensed Site as a temporary fire station under the previous terms and conditions.
The City of Maricopa is in the process of constructing the permanent fire station site in Rancho Mirage to serve the same area of the community. Until the occupation of that new facility, anticipated to occur in the first quarter of 2013, the City is interested in continued use of the Licensed site to ensure uninterrupted fire protection services to the area. This lease, with a 60-day termination provision, will allow ample time for that transition to occur as well as the removal of vertical structures on the property.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends Council approval of this Lease agreement, to ensure access to the temporary fire station site until the relocation to the new Fire Station 572 currently under construction at a City-owned site in Rancho Mirage.
