AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

On April 7, 2015, Council accepted a grant award and entered into a joint project agreement (JPA) with the Arizona Department of Transportation for the paving of approximately 7,902 lineal feet of Hartman Road, north of Maricopa Casa Grande Highway.  The project, titled Hartman Road Paving, replaced a capital project with the same title and received federal funding allocated to the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) for programming projects that reduce particulate matter under 2.5 microns (PM 2.5) in portions of the West Central Pinal PM 2.5 Nonattainment Area located within the planning boundaries of both MAG and the Sun Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization.

With design for the paving project now complete, an engineer’s opinion of probable cost estimates a budget shortfall in the amount of $80,252.  Under the terms of the JPA, the City is responsible for actual costs exceeding the initial estimate.  The Public Works department requests funding in an amount not to exceed $92,300 from the CIP line item for the design of Hartman Road.  Because the shortfall is only an estimate, the requested amount includes a contingency of approximately fifteen percent of the estimated shortfall.

This item will be presented by Public Works Director/City Engineer William P. Fay.
