TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on appointing members to the Parks, Recreation and Library Committee Advisory Committee, Transportation Committee, Heritage District Citizens Advisory Committee, Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Board of Adjustment. Discussion and Action.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
On August 7, the City approved Ordinance 12-07 which defines how members are appointed to City boards, committees, and commissions. On September 7, Ordinance 12-07 went into effect. This agenda item gives the City Council the option to nominate and appoint members to the City boards, committees and commissions (BCC) under the new ordinance.

Staff offers the following information for the meeting and the impact of this new ordinance:

Council has received all applications from applicants who wish to be appointed and meet the minimal technical requirements. Applications include current appointees to various BCCs. Any additional applicants that are received will be emailed to Council. Each individual Councilmember has the prerogative to evaluate the qualification of the applicants beyond the minimal qualifications. Council may contact applicants directly if they desire additional information. Applicants are not guaranteed an appointment just because they applied.

Council will be asked to make a nomination for one member of each of the five listed BCCs as they are discussed. Council is requested to bring the name of their primary nomination and any alternate nominations in case their primary is selected by a fellow Councilmember.

If a Councilmember is unable to make a nomination at this meeting, there will be a second opportunity to make nominations at the October 2 meeting.

With the passage of Ordinance 12-07, family members are not eligible for nomination “unless there are not sufficient applicants for the position.”
