TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on approving a purchase from Motorola Solutions, Inc. for seven (7) radios pursuant to Section 3-223, “Cooperative Purchasing” of the City Code in an amount not to exceed $49,896. AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on a request to purchase four (4) dual-band VHF/800 MHz mobile radios and three (3) dual-band VHF/800 MHz portable radios with required rechargeable batteries.

In February 2012, the Mayor and City Council provided consent to submit a grant application to the Arizona Department of Homeland Security in the amount of $53,241 to purchase five portable and two mobile radios for the Fire Department.

In April 2012, the City of Maricopa received notification from the Arizona Department of Homeland Security through the Regional Advisory Council that the grant application would not be funded due to priorities of the East Region. The application was ranked in the top ten for the region. Final notification of no award will be provided to the City of Maricopa Fire Department in the next 30-60 days.

Radios are essential communications equipment used by firefighters on all emergency incidents and during day-to-day operations. The purchased mobile radios will be assigned to Battalion trucks and two reserve apparatus replacing radios that do not have enough channel space and are not 800MHz capable. The portable radios will be used by crews replacing radios that are not 800MHz capable. This supports Fire Department radio replacement plan to annually replace equipment that has reach life expectancy and replace radios that are not capable of dual-band technology.
