TITLE

The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and possibly take action on a request for clarification regarding the inclusion of a request for funding for twelve (12) bus shelters in the Section 5311 Transit Grant FY 16/17/18 application.  Discussion and Action.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

This agenda item is staff's request to clarify whether the Mayor and Council desire to include the twelve bus shelters in the FY16/17/18 application.

The Mayor and Council held Public Hearing  PH 16-01 on February 16, 2016, with no opposition voiced by the public for the Section 5311 Transit Grant  FY 16/17/18 application.  On March 15, 2016, the Mayor and Council approved Resolution  RES 16-09, supporting the new two year application for this grant, subject to budget approval during the normal budget process.  However, some concern was voiced by council regarding the inclusion of twelve (12) bus shelters in this application.  It appears there may have been some confusion regarding the local matching funds required for the bus shelters.  The total amount of twelve bus shelters is estimated to be $120,000.  The historical capital cost share has been 90/10 (90 percent federal, 10 percent local).  The estimated local match requirement is therefore $12,000. ($120,000 x .10).

If the Mayor and Council desire to include the bus shelters in the FY16/17/18 Section 5311 Transit Grant application, then approval is sought authorizing the inclusion.

This item is presented by Martin Scribner, Development Services Director and David R. Maestas, COMET Program Manager.
