TITLE
The City Council shall discuss and take action to approve an Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Chandler for the purpose of the Maricopa Fire/Medical Department (MFMD) to participate in Fire Service trainings hosted by the Chandler Fire Department. The Maricopa Fire/Medical Department wishes to enter into this IGA to improve its capabilities thereby directly advancing the City of Maricopa's interest in protecting the health, safety and welfare of its citizens. AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
The City Council shall discuss and possibly approve an Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Chandler for the purpose of MFMD employees continuing to attend the Chandler Fire Department Fire Service Trainings. The purpose of the Intergovernmental Agreement is to set the provisions under which the City of Chandler and the City of Maricopa will operate to provide Fire Service Trainings, hosted by the Chandler Fire Department. Training topics could include blood borne pathogens, electrical safety, confined space entry, flashover training, hazardous materials response, technical rescue, hose placement, ladder use and pharmacology. Other subjects will be included as necessary and MFMD will be given the opportunity to suggest additional topics.
The MFMD total contribution shall be equal to Four Hundred Dollars ($400) per sworn firefighter employed by MFMD as of the Effective Date and each anniversary of that date for the term of this IGA but not to exceed ninety (90) firefighters annually.
Based on current staffing of 71 Sworn as of 3/4/2025, the total annual cost would be $28,400.00.
This annual amount is within the MFMD's Education and Training budget, with room for additional staff, if required.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends approval of an Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Chandler for Fire Services Training.
