A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona approving and adopting the 2040 Vision and Strategic Plan. Discussion and Action.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
In the fall of 2014, City Council initiated a citizen-driven visioning program to establish the City's direction for the next 25 years. The program - "2040 Vision" - actively engaged the community in planning Maricopa's future. The program kicked-off in September 2014 and moved forward with nine Community Forums to gather citizen input for the development of the 25 year plan. Additionally, sixteen community members were selected by the City Council and appointed by the Mayor to serve on the Steering Committee Task Force and oversee the process.
In December 2014, citizen input collected during the Community Forums was used to develop Core Vision Elements. Topics included growth and development, economic development, community resources, fiscal policies, safe and liveable community, and community pride and spirit.
Citizens attending the Community Forums who were interested in continuing in the 2040 Visioning process volunteered to participate on Issue Project Teams. In January and February, these Teams worked with the Steering Committee members to fully develop the Core Vision Elements that have become the foundation for the final draft of the 2040 Vision document.
On March 24, 2015 the Steering Committee approved the 2040 Vision and Strategic Plan final draft and presented the document to City Council during a joint meeting on April 21, 2015.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the adoption of the 2040 Vision and Strategic Plan.
