TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall discuss and take action to approve an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between the City of Maricopa and Pinal County for participation in the Pinal County Annual Safety Roadeo. Discussion and Action.
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
Pinal County conducts an annual “safety roadeo” event with the purpose of promoting the safe operation of heavy equipment and machinery by employees through various fun and challenging tests designed to evaluate an operator’s skills and knowledge. This 32nd Annual Safety Roadeo will be on November 20, 2025; we typically send 6-8 employees from our streets division.
Our employees' safety is a top priority, and participating in this important training opportunity through this mutual IGA would be very beneficial. Attending a safety event is critical for public works employees because it reinforces safe work practices, reduces the risk of workplace injuries, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards. This event provides valuable training, updates on industry safety protocols, and hands-on demonstrations that prepare employees to respond effectively in the field. Participation also promotes a culture of accountability and teamwork, where safety is prioritized as a shared responsibility. Ultimately, attending this "safety roadeo" helps protect both employees and the community, while improving operational efficiency and reducing liability for the city.
