TITLE
The Mayor and City Council shall hear a presentation on a grant award from the Pinal County Attorney's Office for the Maricopa in Motion, mobile recreation program.
 
AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
In May 9, 2012 the Maricopa Community Services Department submitted a grant application to the Pinal County Attorney's Office requesting funds to purchase a truck to implement Maricopa in Motion.
 
Maricopa in Motion is a Mobile Recreation Unit that will travel to various schools; Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, Pima Butte, Saddleback, Butterfield, Maricopa Elementary, Sequoia Pathway, Leading Edge and Legacy Traditional on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from September to April each school year. The program will run from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will employ middle school and high school students as part-time aides.  Maricopa in Motion will be provided to approximately 4,000 elementary aged students enrolled in the schools (public and charter) in Maricopa.
 
On May 31, 2012 the Pinal County Attorney's Office awarded the City of Maricopa $7,500 to assist with developing the "Maricopa in Motion" program for after school programming.
