TITLE
A Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of the City of Maricopa, Arizona, authorizing the imposition and collection of fees for licensing and regulating the collection, transportation, disposition or recycling of residential, commercial or industrial refuse generated within the city and establishing the solid waste fee schedule. Discussion and Action.

AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION
At any one time, residents and businesses within the City of Maricopa are served by private, for profit, solid waste haulers who contract to pick up, haul and dispose of residential and commercial solid waste. The solid waste companies operate numerous solid waste, or "trash", trucks on our city streets, placing loads on City owned and maintained streets. This commercial activity places loads on our roadway materials causing a slight but consistent breakdown of the asphalt, curbing, and underlying roadbed material.  The ultimate result of this activity is a net decrease in the operational life of City roadways and a net increase in pavement preservation and maintenance cost.

On October 7, 2014, Maricopa City Council gave direction to staff to post a solid waste fee schedule and to bring forward, after 60 days, an agenda item for consideration to implement a solid waste ordinance and fee schedule. This agenda item completes Council's request.

Solid Waste Fee Schedule
o      $1,000 annual Per Vehicle Fee, or 4% of Gross Receipt Fee, whichever is higher
o      $350 annual Application Fee

STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends Council approve this Resolution adopting the fee schedule.
