AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION

The Arizona Department of Homeland Security (AZDOHS) with state, local and tribal jurisdictions, enhance the State’s efforts to prepare, prevent, and respond to terrorist attacks and other disasters by distributing grant funds. For FY17 AZDOHS grants, they expect to award ≈ $395,000 to the East RAC. In FY16, the ERAC had 13 applications submitted with 8 receiving funds in the first round of awards. Three additional awards were made with left over funds.

MPD submitted the AZDOHS FY17 grant application on March 3rd, 2016. The grant was to improve the interoperability and communication abilities of MPD, MPD requested 15 radios to increase and improve the ability of MPD to communicate with all of its Officers, Volunteers, and regional partners. The radios will aid MPD in testing our true capabilities of responding with our Regional partners in times of need and assist in exercising that capability in conjunction with our Regional partners that include Pinal County Emergency Management, Ak-Chin Indian Community, and Gila River Indian Community to name a few. MPD is currently working with Pinal County EM on a train derailment exercise that will help assess MPD's future needs for communication and equipment.

This item will be presented by TJ Hansell - Grants Coordinator.
